Having narrowly missed out on the Grand Final in the last two seasons, St Helens will be determined to make their eleventh Old Trafford appearance in 2017.
Head coach Keiron Cunningham is still chasing his first trophy since taking over at the club in 2015 and will want to land some silverware this season.
Former Salford scrum half Matty Smith returns to his hometown club from close neighbours Wigan but sustained a broken leg in the pre season friendly against fellow super league outfit Widnes Vikings. When he returns he could form a formidable partnership in the halves with fellow halfback and former Salford player Theo Fages.
Centre Ryan Morgan and prop Luke Douglas have also joined from the NRL and will add some experience to the side.
Cunningham will also be looking to hand a number of first team opportunities to the club’s exciting academy prospects after the Under 19s went unbeaten in 2016.
