Leigh Centurions season preview

 

Leigh Centurions return to Super League in 2017 following an 11-year absence and are aiming to prove that they are worthy of their top-flight status.

Neil Jukes’ side won six of their seven matches in the Qualifiers including wins over fellow Super League sides Huddersfield, Salford and Hull KR

 

The Centurions have added quality to their squad including the likes of Glenn Stewart and Atelea Vea from Catalans and St Helens respectively as well as Josh Drinkwater and Mitch Brown from the NRL.
Leigh Centurions return to Super League in 2017 following an 11-year absence and are aiming to prove that they are worthy of their top-flight status.

 

Leigh face a difficult opening set of fixtures and it will be a real test of their pedigree to compete with the competition’s best sides.

Staying in the Super League for 2018 will be the Centurions’ initial priority and then to build the club into a long-term Super League side.

Out: Liam Kay (Toronto Wolfpack), Jonathan Pownall (Toronto Wolfpack), Andrew Dixon (Toronto Wolfpack), Greg Worthington (Toronto Wolfpack), Tom Armstrong (Widnes Vikings), Reni Maitua (Retired), Tom Spencer (London Broncos).

 

KEY PLAYER – MICKEY HIGHAM
Mickey Higham will captain his home-town club in the competition this season and the experienced hooker will be looking to lead from the front.

The 36-year-old has 387 Super League appearances to his name but will have more pride than ever representing his local team and despite his age still has plenty to offer from dummy-half.
