Salford 24 Warrington 14

Salford welcomed Warrington to the AJ Bell stadium for there 4th match of the season. The visitors had made an indifferent start to the season with two defeats in Super League but a great win over a Brisbane in the world club series. Salford got off to a flying start with George Griffin running out wide and Junior Sau crashing over in the corner. Gareth O Brien misses the conversation 4-0.

Micheal Dobson leading Salford well started to boss the game as his clever kick through almost created a try for Griffin as the ball agonisingly went dead in goal. 25 minutes in Warrington receive a real dubious penalty and with the good field position Declan Patton crosses for a try. He can't convert so the scores were level at 4-4. After Kurt Gidley knocked on playing the ball 20 yards out Salford seized there opportunity. Michael Dobson put a high kick in the air which causes havoc for the Wolves as its palmed on to George Griffin who's in the right place to touch down. O Brien failed to convert but Salford lead 8-4.

Salford then put of a tremendous training ground move involving O Brien and Josh Jones, touch judge James child pulls it back for a forward pass. Just before the break Kurt Gidley gets Warrington on the front foot finding Jack Hughes who darts over to put Warrington level. Patton converts  to edge the wolves in front 8-10 at half time.

Salford started the second half in perfect fashion. Kris Brining pinched a try from close range on the first set of six, O Brien added the goal 14-10.
Junior Sau came close but was tackled just short. Warrington are back level again when Gidley throws at cut out pass for wing man Johnson who squeezes in at the corner. Patton can't convert so the scores are locked at 14-14.

Warrington started to pile the pressure on looking for cracks in the Red Devil's defence. Josh Jones intercepted and sets Robert Lui on the break. The Wolves got back to cover but conceded the penalty and O Brien didn't hesitate in taking the two points on offer to make it 16-14

With 8 minutes remain  Kevin Brown tried a forty twenty kick, much to the relief of the Salford faithful  the ball went out on the full. Micheal Dobson worked the field position and came up with a sublime kick through Junior Sau pounces to give Salford a six point lead. O Brien adds the goal to give breathing space at 22-14.

Warrington were now desperate and took a short kick off. Salford's defence again is outstanding and goal line defence has been terrific all match. 2 minutes remained and frustration showed as the Wolves concede another penalty o Brien kicks again to put the game to bed 24-14.

A really good test passed today by Salford, defence was outstanding at times with some clever tries scored! Micheal Dobson's game management was outstanding once again. Ian Watson was delighted after the match and excited with the up and coming selection head aches he faces with players returning from injury and suspension. A tough trip to Wakefield next Sunday awaits.
